Entrelac Knitting Pattern – Cowl

This shaped cowl or neck warmer fits beautifully around your neck and shoulders, and the entrelac pattern makes it lovely and snuggly ! The cowl measures approximately 115cm (45in) around the bottom, 54cm (21in) around the top and 34cm (13.5in) high before blocking. I prefer the unblocked look for Entrelac but the cowl can be blocked if preferred. It is worked seamlessly and is completely adjustable in size.

Full instructions are given on the Entrelac method used, including photos and diagrams. If you haven’t worked Entrelac before this is a great project to start with. I run workshops for this technique and have included many hints and tips in this pattern, not just the basic instructions. Details are given to help with any size adjustments you may require, as well as a very useful time-saving trick to avoid you having to turn your work continuously – learn how to KNIT BACKWARDS (not compulsory) !!!

You will need:

2 x 100g balls of Hayfield Spirit DK in shade Harmony (401), 345m/377 yds per 100g. (The finished cowl weighs 130g, which can be used to help calculate how many balls you need if you want to substitute another DK yarn)
One 4mm circular needle 60cm (24in) long
Tapestry needle
